Italian Market
Italian Market
12/12/09
9th Avenue and Washington Street
The Italian Market encompasses several blocks in Philly’s South-side. It’s fun to see the Italian-American pride this neighborhood exudes. There are humorous signs stating the case for calling the pasta and meat condiment “gravy” vs. “sauce” and vice-versa.
The cramped stores are packed floor to ceiling with cheeses, salumi and products of every kind from the old country.
Street vendors sell vegetables and shops specialized in various articles. My favorite was a butcher who carries, fresh whole rabbit, pheasant and even kangaroo!
Ciao for now!
